South Korea’s Renault Samsung Motors has decided to shut the plant in Busan for two days until Wednesday on a shortage of semiconductors.
Other major Korean automakers like Kia and Hyundai have already cut production, says local media.
Renault Samsung’s plant in Busan has an annual capacity to manufacture 300,000 cars. The plant produces models which are in high demand from European markets and worldwide, except Russia.
In the first six months of 2021, Renault Samsung sold 26,908 units, 49.4pc lower than the prior-year period. Renault Group owns 80.1pc share, while Samsung Motors owns 19.9pc share in Renault Samsung.
