In October, passenger vehicles’ (PV) production including three-wheelers, two-wheelers and quadricycle rose to 2.83mn units by 35.64pc from the prior month, according to data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SAIM) on Nov 11.

 

Sales of passenger vehicles grew by 14.19pc at 310,294 units in October from a year ago. Three-wheeler sales in October took a hit of 60.91pc to 26,187 units from the previous year while two-wheeler sales increased by 16.88pc to 2.05mn units in October compared to 2019. 

 

From April-October, production of passenger vehicles fell by 32.66pc to 16.09mn units from the prior year period, while sales of passenger vehicles dropped by 25.84pc in the seven-month period. A major drop is total sales is due to 78pc decline in sales of three-wheelers which was reported at 84,849 units, while two-wheeler sales slipped by 29pc to 11.45mn units in April-October from the preceding year. 

 

Sales in October trended upwards, drawing on from the previous month, says Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM. He also stated that there were marked improvements across many segments due to festive demand.
