National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) will supply iron ore for the proposed steel plant in Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh. The state expects investments of Rs2 lakh crore in steel and petroleum sectors in the next five years.
The assurance for supply of iron ore to the plant was agreed upon during the meeting between Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Steel with Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Velagapudi on Friday, .
Kadapa Steel Plant: The building of steel plant in Kadapa was part of the bifurcation plan for the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is not yet decided if the plant will be run by the government or a private entity. Earlier, the state had plans to secure iron ore from Obulapuram mines. The AP government and NMDC will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) before laying the foundation for the Kadapa steel plant in December.
