Primetals Technologies has received the rights to use Metso straight gate iron ore pelletizing (SG-IOP) technology in the Indian markets.
The company believes that this move will help them to meet India’s growing steel demand, with Indian pellet plant capacity forecast to grow significantly in the near years.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) in June 2020 approved the arrangement of Metso Minerals business and Finland’s Outotec.
Primetals Technology would now design, engineer, supply, and commission pelletizing plants based on this technology. It also enables the company to participate in aftermarket services in India. The agreement with Metso Outotec enables them to provide iron ore pellet plants up to 8mn mt annually to India.
Indian iron ore pellet capacity is expected to expand significantly in the coming years to support the rising crude steel production. Most of the pellets units are being commissioned in the eastern states of India.
