Global primary aluminum production stood at 5.47mn mt in November, up 4.1pc on an annual basis, according to the International Aluminum Institute (IAI). 


China continued to lead production, accounting for 3.17mn mt in November, rising by 7.6pc from 2.95mn mt in the same month last year. Production in Asia, outside China, however, fell by 3.7pc to 344,000mt last month from 357,000mt in November 2019. 


North America’s primary aluminum output increased by 5pc to 327,000mt compared with 311,000mt last November, while South American volumes fell by 10.4pc to 86,000mt last month, compared to 95,000mt a year ago. 


Production in West Europe declined by 3.7pc to 272,000mt over 282,000mt in November 2019. In East and Central Europe as well, output fell by 1.4pc to 340,000mt compared with 345,000mt in the same month under comparison.


Production in the Middle East declined by 1pc to 478,000mt in November from 483,000mt in the same month last year. Africa’s output was short by 3pc at 129,000mt compared with 133,000mt in November 2019. Volumes from Oceania remained flat at 157,000mt while estimated aluminum production for the rest of the world rose by 13pc to 164,000mt.
