Peru’s iron ore production in January 2021 stood at 1.12mn mt, up by 13.2pc as compared to 997,176mt in January 2020, according to the country’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem). Compared to the prior month, i.e. December 2020, the country’s iron ore output rose by 15.2pc. Its iron ore production stood at 980,129mt in December 2020. 

The increase in the iron ore output in January was driven by higher production by the country’s producer Shougang Hierro Peru which contributed 97.9pc to the total. 

The company’s production in January grew by 15pc over prior-year period. 

 

Minem also informed that the country’s iron ore exports increased by 15pc in January despite the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In January, around $275mn was invested in the mining sector.
