Australian miner Oz Minerals has resumed ore production in a phased manner at its Prominent Hill mine in South Australia after the death of a worker resulted in the stoppage of work on Sep 5.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday is under investigation by the South Australian Police, assisted by the company and the contractor, Byrnecut. The company said that as of Monday, Sep 6, it was resuming operations in a “staggered” manner.
Oz Minerals recently noted that it plans to invest around $435mn in expanding its Wira shaft and extension of mine life at Prominent Hill. This investment is expected to raise annual copper ore production to 6mn mt and copper metal output to 53,000mt by 2025.
