The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced announced two new members—Outokumpu, based in Calvert, AL, and North American Stainless (NAS) in Ghent, KY.
AISI’s president and chief executive officer, believes having the two companies under the association’s umbrella will enhance its clout with North American policymakers.
Roger Newport, chief executive officer of AK Steel, added that the two companies have been strong allies on policy issues related to the steel industry, and that the industry now has a stronger voice.
Outukumpu recently received a Gold level rating from EcoVadis, a sustainability rating provider. The rating indicates Outokumpu is among the top 5pc of suppliers it has has evaluated. Outokumpu has made substantial investments to build an environmentally efficient production system, which would enhance its products’ sustainability.
