Texas-based Optimus Steel is planning a $40mn industrial project expansion near its Beaumont headquarters, wherein it will add a new steel wire product line.

The Orange country commissioners recently voted on a 500-acre reinvestment zone with key railroad access. Due to the discussion of tax incentives, Optimus Steel is also assessing other nearby regions.

Optimus Steel presently has one terminal in Illinois and two in Ohio with strategic railroad access to service customers nationwide. The exact additional tonnage capacity from the new Texas site was not disclosed.

The company produces steel billets, coiled rebar, and wire rod at its 700,000nt (635,209mt) melt capacity and 800,000nt rolling capacity Beaumont mill.
