Olympic Steel announced Monday that it is opening a new metal processing facility, near Atlanta, in Buford, Georgia. The new site for the national metals service provider, will serve as the area’s main flat-rolled fabrication center.

As Olympic’s primary hub for the southeastern region, the 120,000 square foot facility will expand its footprint in the region and support first-stage metal processing for its Winder, Georgia facility, metal distribution for its Winder and Hanceville, Alabama facilities, and pipe and tube laser fabrication, including bending and welding for the company’s Chicago Tube & Iron (CTI) location near Charlotte, North Carolina.

Olympic’s collective southeastern facilities offer cut-to-size, slitting, leveling, laser cutting, forming, welding, machining, kitting, assembly and distribution for a range of carbon, stainless sheet, aluminum sheet, plate, coil, pipe and tube products.

Olympic has also added a new Mitsubishi fiber optic laser and a 600-ton Verson stamping press with a COE coil feed system in the new facility. The added processing capability and equipment supports the company’s commitment to automotive OEMs and their suppliers, and backs growing demand from other OEM consumers, the company announced in a statement.

David Gea, region vice president and general manager at Olympic, said the development enables the company to offer new processed products with further just-in-time services to customers. Opening the Buford facility also supports the company’s product and processing resources to meet increased customer demand in the Southeast.

The company, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, provides 27 additional locations in the Southeast that support consumer processing redundancy, and operates from 31 facilities throughout North America.
