The state of Odisha continued to maintain the top spot among crude steel producers in India in April 2020-Feb 2021 with an output of 19.44mn mt.
 

Its neighbouring state Jharkhand produced. 14.16mn mt crude steel. Odisha surpassed Jharkhand in production numbers in FY2018-19 when their output was 19.29mn mt and 17.23mn mt, respectively. 

 

In the April 2020- Feb 2021 period, india’s eastern region produced 40.34mn mt, western region 27.74mn mt, northern region 6.24mn mt while southern region produced 19.03mn mt crude steel.

 

Odisha continues to attract large investments in steel sector among all Indian states and is expected to produced 100mn mt steel by 2030. The Nation Steel Policy envisages production of 300mn mt by 2030 in India and expects Odisha to contribute more than 50pc in the development of downstream units in metal sector.
