Nornickel is investing RUB 40bn on a clean-up program focused on scrap metals and industrial waste removal from the city of Norilsk. 

 

The program will be conducted over 10 years and will demolish unused buildings, structures, pipelines, and utility lines according to Nornickel’s statement on Jul 27. 

 

Norilsk has undergone a massive waste debris and scrap disposal drive for some time with nearly 45 abandoned buildings in the area, already brought down.

 

In the last few months, the firm too has invested close to RUB 3.4mn on 72 units of specialized machinery for the cleaning operations. With this, the Russian steelmaker has removed close to 50,000mt of dilapidated waste and scrap metals.
