Indian state-owned iron ore producer National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) is planning to increase its ore production capacity to 48mn mt by financial year 2020-21. In 2018-19, the company’s production was 32.46mn mt.
The company expects its increased production to come from its mines in Chhattisgarh and Donimalia mines in Karnataka.
NMDC is also set to foray into steelmaking by setting up a 3mn mt greenfield steel plant at Nagarnar in Chhattisgarh. The plant is likely to commence operations by Q3 of financial year 2020-21. NMDC’s steel plant will produce flat products like HR coils/ sheets/ plates. Other products will include pig iron, granulated slag, BF coke and its products.
