National Mineral Development Corporation Limited (NMDC) has recently secured two coal blocks, the Rohne and Tokisud North, for commercial mining by the Ministry of Coal. Both the coal blocks are located at Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand and aerial distance of about 10-15 km.

 

The Rohne coal block has extractable reserves of 191mn mt and planned production capacity of 8mn mt. The same block has coking coal which may require NMDC to set up coal washeries. 

 

The Tokisud North coal block has extractable reserves of about 52mn mt of thermal coal and planned production capacity of 2.32mn mt.  

NMDC will execute allotment agreement for Tokisud North coal block on Dec 24, 2019. The Rohne coal block agreement would be executed as per the directives from the Ministry of Coal. NMDC has set up a coal division in Hyderabad exclusively to provide coal linkage to steel and power sector in India.
