German aluminum components maker, Newalu has bagged an order from US electric vehicle maker Lucid to provide lightweight aluminum components to the latter. The order also includes aluminum body parts for Lucid’s EVs that will be sent to the components-maker for finishing.
Newalu did not disclose the volumes or the value of the order but indicated in a press release on Tuesday that it was setting up a new production line at its Delbrück location in North Rhine-Westphalia. The order is being touted as just what the medium-sized parts supplier needed to bounce back from the losses it sustained due to the COVID-19 related lockdowns earlier this year. The medium-sized aluminum maker is also planning to add to its 130-people workforce at the plant to meet the needs of the new production line.
Lucid plans to begin the production of its e-sedan before the end of this year at its plant in Casa Grande, Arizona. The company will introduce more variants of this model by 2022.
Newalu currently supplies aluminum heat-treated components to the automotive, mechanical engineering, and aviation industry.
