Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) is slated to begin construction soon on blast furnace No. 11 at its facility in Chelyabinsk, Russia, which will raise the company’s annual pig iron output by 3.7mn when it becomes operational in 2025.
This blast furnace will be loaded with superior technology and will enable the plant to shut down three of its existing furnaces and reduce emissions by 6,600mt a year.
MMK just hit a milestone of producing 650mn mt of pig iron since its launch in 1932. At the moment, it carries a capacity of producing 10mn mt of pig iron across eight blast furnaces annually.
