Light vehicle purchases in Mexico rebounded this year, increasing by 14.7pc between January and May compared to the first five months of 2020, according to the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA).
This year, a total of 428,257 light vehicles were purchased in the country, compared to the 373,409 in the January-May 2021 period. AMDA indicated that Mexico City bought the most cars at 67,732 units, followed by the State of Mexico with 46,669 and Nuevo León, with 35,901 units in January-May this year.
Purchases doubled in May 2021 compared to 2020, increasing 104.4pc, to 85,897 from 42,019. Again, Mexico City was the largest market in May, with 13,860 units; Estado de México was second with 9,358 units, and Nuevo León was third with 7,861 units.
