Mexico’s car output, domestic sales, and exports increased in April on an annual basis on higher demand according to the National Institute of Statistical and Geographic Information (Inegi).

 

Car production rose by 7,132pc to 269,180 units in April, from 3,722 vehicles produced in April 2020 when carmakers halted operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Inegi noted in a statement on Friday.

 

Domestic sales climbed by 139.3pc to 83,611 units in April, from 34,927 vehicles sold in the same month of 2020. Exports climbed by 652.2pc to 234,584 units in April this year, from 31,183 cars shipped the same month the prior year.  

 

Exports 

Mexico’s car shipments to the USA rose by 6.6pc to 699,551 units in January-April, from 656,302 vehicles exported in the same period of the prior year, Inegi indicated without disclosing April’s data.

 

Shipments to Canada climbed by 23pc to 66,100 cars in January-April, from 53,727 units exported in the same period last year. Exports to Colombia fell by 9.4pc to 12,988 cars in January-April, down from 14,341 cars exported in the four months of 2020. Shipments to Europe rose by 12.3pc to 67,480 units from 60,066 cars and exports to Asia soared by 88pc to 35,058 units from 18,643 cars during the same period under review.
