Mining output in Mexico grew by 27pc in April on an annual basis, despite a drop in copper and iron ore production, the National Institute of Geography, Statistics, and Informatics (INEGI) reported today.


Mexican mining grew by 3.5pc in April from the previous month, INEGI noted in its monthly report. On an annual basis, lead production saw the highest growth, increasing by 57.6pc in April to 16.015mt from 10,160mt in the same month of 2020.


Zinc extraction increased by 31pc to 30,464mt in April from 23,249mt in April 2020. Iron ore pellet production grew by 4.7pc to 485,203mt from 463,312mt in the same period.


However, copper output declined by 5.7pc in April to 38,298mt from 40,606mt in the same month last year while iron ore extraction dropped by 2.3pc to 749,258mt from 766,593mt in the same timeframe.
