Spanish headquartered steel group Megasa is scheduled to install a new walking beam furnace at its Aldeia de Paio Pires-based manufacturing plant in Seixal, Portugal.

 

The installation is expected to commence in January 2021 and will last for approximately one and a half months. The furnace will be supplied by the SMS Group on a turnkey basis.

 

The new furnace, rated at 160mt per hour cold charged and 210mt per hour hot charged, will include the latest technological packages developed by the SMS group. Moreover, it will be able to reheat billets from as slender as 120mm up to 160mm in various lengths up to 14.5m.

 

Megasa has an installed steelmaking capacity of more than 3mn mt and operates electric arc furnaces and rolling mills in Narón and Zaragoza, Spain, and in Seixal and Maia, Portugal.

 

The company has the capability to produce long steel products including rebar, wire rod, and electro-welded fabric.
