Of the total output in March, passenger vehicle production grew by 175.5pc to 58,102 units from 21,087 units, while commercial vehicle output stood at 4,119 units, up by 162.4pc as compared to 1,570 units produced in the same month in the prior year.
March sales
The country’s vehicle sales in March stood at 63,878 units, up by 200.7pc from 21,242 units sold in the same month in 2020 driven by the rush in deliveries by companies before the end of the fiscal ending on March 31, launch of new vehicle models, and normal business continuity without the COVID-19-induced movement control order (MCO).
Passenger vehicle sales in March rose by 197.7pc to 56,478 units as compared to 18,974 units sold in Mar 2020, while commercial vehicle sales stood at 7,400 units, up by 226.3pc from 2,268 units sold in the same month in the preceding year.
Q1 sales
In the first quarter of the year (Jan-Mar, 2020), the country’s auto sales increased by 32.5pc to 139,499 units from 105,253 units sold in the prior-year period. Of which, sales of passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles stood at 123,281 units and 16,218 units, respectively.
Outlook
The MAA is expecting the high sales volume to continue during the next month (April 2021) due to the ongoing aggressive promotional campaigns and car launches by car companies.
