Denmark-based container shipping line, Maersk, has announced it would stop accepting cargoes of solid waste, including scrap metal for China that arrive effective September 1, 2020 in compliance with China government’s requirements about zero solid waste import as of 2021.
This is pertinent to all solid waste cargo including waste paper, scrap metal, used plastics, waste textile and waste chemicals.
In June, MSC Mediterranean followed by Germany-based container shipping company Hapag Lloyd issued a similar notice. In mid-July Taiwan-based Yang Ming followed the lead.
