A “deep-seated” fire at Liberty Steel’s Newport steelworks was declared under control by local fire services late on Wednesday evening (GMT), according to local media reports on October 29.
While 1000mt of “waste material” close to the steelmaking process had caught fire, Davis Index understands that production was unaffected.
Liberty Steel operates an electric arc furnace with an annual capacity of 1.0mn mt and is capable of producing hot-rolled wide coil in a wide range of sizes.
