JSW steel’s crude steel production in the December quarter (Oct-Dec 2019) declined by 5pc to 4.02mn from the year prior as extended monsoon lowered outputs at Dolvi and Vijaynagar works. In the nine-month period (Apr-Dec), crude steel production declined by 3pc to 12.52mn mt from a year ago.

 

In December quarter, shipments increased 10pc while the company’s revenue from operations was 15,767 crore, a decline of 15pc, mainly due to weak steel prices in both domestic and export markets. Domestic shipments increased by 25pc from the prior quarter aided increase in sales to the retail segment.

JSW’s capacity expansion plans include augmenting the crude steel capacity at Dolvi works from 5mn mt to 10mn mt/pa and at Vijayanagar works, capacity will expanded from 12mn mt to 13mn mt (except BF-3 enhancement). JSW will also expand capacity of CRM-1 complex at Vijayanagar works and certain other downstream projects, which are under advanced stages of implementation. The new capacity at Dolvi is expected to be commissioned in the first half of fiscal year 2021.
