A rise in COVID-19 infections among its employees has forced JK Tyre to delay the reopening of its Mysore plant. The factory has two production units; one in Hebbal and the other in Metagalli. Around 41 employees tested positive on July 17 and over 100 employees had contracted the virus by July 22. 

 

Production at the plant was shut on July 18 and was scheduled to re-open on July 21, which has been postponed to July 24. Approximately, 150-200 employees at the factory are being tested for the virus. A total of 6,500 employees work at these plant, tests have been made mandatory by the company, according to local media. 

 

JK Tyre produces 20mn tyres annually. The company has nine plants across India, with three of them in Mysore.
