Steel industry in Jiangsu province in China will adopt ultra-low emission standards by the end of 2020. With these standards, steel plants in the province will be exempt from a few production restrictions., according to government agency Metallurgical news. 

 

Jiangsu province has around 80pc of blast furnaces which need to either be replaced or upgraded. At present, Zenith Iron and steel plant has already adopted these standards. The Jiangsu provincial government has been given targets since 2018 to annual shift 11.26mn mt of production to ultra-low emission standards. 

 

Jiangsu is the second- largest steel producer province in China. According to National Bureau Statistics, plants in the province produced 120.17mn mt of crude steel in 2019, up by 15pc from previous year. During the first two months of 2020, crude steel production of the province was 17.82mn mt, a drop of 3pc from a year ago.
