Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Vietnam’s JFE Shoji Steel Hai Phong (JSHP) launched operations at its second processing plant in February 2021.

The exact capacity was not disclosed, but the company said in a statement that it is focusing on value-added stamping capabilities and expanding additional processing capacity. JSHP hopes to further benefit from the China-US trade tension, which may promote further production transfer to Southeast Asia.

JSHP is a Japanese steel processing center in Hai Phong under the JFE Shoji Trade Vietnam umbrella. The Hai Phong entity was established in north Vietnam in 2013 to satisfy the regional demand for sheet and strip used in home appliances and equipment manufacturing. The company now focuses on domestic and export markets.

JFE Shoji has also engaged with other domestic partners in Vietnam such as Ton Dong A. JFE Shoji Trade has also expanded to Malaysia.
