Japan’s secondary aluminum output increased by 17pc to 333,100mt in the first five months of 2021 from 283,100mt in the same year-ago period, according to the Japan Aluminium Association. In May, the country’s output stood at 60,000mt, up 67pc from May 2020.
Al extrusion output up in Q1
In January-March, production of aluminum extrusion rose 4.8pc to 258,900mt over 272,600mt in the same period of 2020. In this comparative timeframe, diecast output rose by about 20pc to 385,900mt against 322,300mt. Aluminum foil output grew 17pc to 50,200mt compared with 42,900mt. However, the volume of cans produced by Japan fell 0.3pc to 148,900mt from 149,300mt.
In May, extrusion output increased 25pc to 52,900mt on an annual basis. Production of diecasting and cans grew 98pc and 4pc to 63,100mt and 32,700mt, respectively.
