Japan processed export orders totaling 1.5mn gt (1.5mt mt) in March 2021 for 28 ships, according to Japan’s Ship Exporters Associations (JSEA) data. The tonnage for orders booked in March 2021 is 127pc more than the 663,050gt for 17 ships placed in the same month last year.

 

According to JSEA, more than 91pc of the ships are slated for FY2022 with only 5.1pc for FY2023 and 3.3pc for FY2024.  

 

Japan received 177 export orders totaling 9mn gt in the past 12 months with 86pc of orders being placed by Japanese related owners. The total tonnage and ship numbers are trending better than the 183 export orders totaling 8.5mn gt in the twelve months ended March 2020.

 

The orders include four container ships, three handysize bulk, six handymax bulk, three Panamax bulk, three post-Panamax bulk, five case-size bulk, four LPG carriers, and a VLCC.
