Canadian firm Ivanhoe Mines reported a record monthly development at its Congolese Kamoa-Kakula copper project, producing 194,000mt of pre-production ore in October. 

 

According to a news release on Nov 2, the copper grade recovery, last month was 4.01pc while mined volumes were up by 48pc over September. The company’s total inventory now stands at 1mn mt, grading at 3.47pc. When the project is commissioned, it will be capable of processing 3.8mn mt of ore per year.

 

Ivanhoe operates the mine in partnership with the Chinese firm, Zijin Mining Group, and the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The group also divulged that mine and mill construction was now at 58pc completion. The miner also noted that production may precede the July 2021 deadline for first concentrate shipping, thanks to accelerated mine development.
