Italy produced 1.9mn mt of crude steel in June 2020, down 7.9pc against 2.1mn mt in the same month a year ago, according to the steel association Federacciai data. 

 

Crude steel production bounced back in June from its 40pc, 42.3pc, and 16.3pc, lows in March, April, and May, respectively, against the same month the prior year as a result of COVID-19 the data indicated.

 

Italy produced 10.2mn mt of crude steel in the first six months of 2020, down 18.8pc compared to the same period a year ago. Consequently, longs steel production decreased by 20.5pc to 5.2mn mt in the first six months of 2020 compared with the same period last year. Flats steel output also decreased by 22.1pc to 4.9mn mt in the first six months of the year against the same period in 2019.

 

In June, Italy produced 1mn mt of longs finished steel, down 10pc against the same month in 2019. Longs steel production decreased by 10.8pc in May, by 47.8pc in April, and by 48.2pc in March 2020 against the same month the prior year, Federacciai noted.

 

Flat steel production declined more severely by 20.1pc at 0.9mn mt in June compared to the same month a year ago. Flats steel production declined by 38.1pc in May, by 35.7pc in April, and by 28.3pc in March against the same corresponding months in 2019 the data indicated.
