Iran’s top lead and zinc producers extracted 584,248mt of ores in the first seven months (Mar 20-Oct 21, 2020) of the Iranian calendar, according to media reports citing data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (Imidro).

 

Angouran Lead and Zinc Complex’s total ores output in the Mar-Oct period increased by 1pc to 550,930mt from the prior-year period, while Nakhlak Lead and Zinc Plant’s ores output stood at 33,318mt, declining by 19pc from the same period in the preceding year.

 

In the seventh month (Sep 22-Oct 21, 2020) of the Iranian calendar, the two companies extracted 81,682mt of ores, up by 7pc from the prior year.

 

Mehdiabad mine is projected to become the main supplier of lead and zinc to Iranian industries after zinc deposits run out at the Angouran mine, according to media reports.

 

Iran holds the world’s largest zinc reserves, as per the United States Geological Survey.
