Iran’s copper anode production increased by 4pc to 94,995mt during Q1 (March 21-June 21) of the Iranian year. The country has recorded a corresponding 9pc rise in product output from May 21-June 21.


Ardeshir Sa’d-Mohammadi, managing director, National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICIC), noted to media on Jul 23 that Iran’s copper cathode production stood at more than 280,000mt last year the highest ever recorded output.


The country is aiming to become the sixth-largest producer of the red metal by the current Iranian year 1399. To that end, the NICIC had announced 1bn mt of new copper reserves, bringing the total discoveries to 8bn mt and counting.


Mohammadi added that with an estimated $7.1bn investment in new projects, Iran has set its sights on increasing its copper concentrate capacity to 2.3mn mt in four years.
