Ferrous scrap imports into Indonesia, a developing import market, rose to 297,663mt in June from 72,121mt in May. Imports increased three-folds compared to the prior year, according to customs data.
Indonesian market started picked up in June post a slump due to Easter weekend in May. Japan was the largest supplier of ferrous scrap to Indonesia in June, with exports of 150,014mt followed by Australia with 410,006mt; Singapore 34,838mt; and Hong Kong 29,559mt.
In H1 (Jan-June), Indonesia’s ferrous scrap imports increased to 1.026mn mt, up by 72pc from 596,944mt in the prior-year period.
