North India’s leading rebar maker KAY2 Steel is planning to double its rebar production capacity to 0.2mn mt in the next two years, according to local media.
KAY2 Steel is upbeat about the growing consumption of rebar in India as the economy gradually recovers with industries resuming operations and construction activities gaining momentum. The company believes that the next two years will be the best time for the infrastructure sector in India with many projects in the pipeline. Demand is expected to come from roads, railways, real estate and other sectors too.
In many parts of India since the easing of pandemic restrictions, construction activities have picked up with 80pc of the workforce back on site, but heavy rains in the last few weeks in Maharashtra and southern states of Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have again either disrupted or halted work at some projects.
KAY2 Steel produces around 1mn mt rebars annually under franchise model and has a presence in 20 Indian states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bihar. The company has launched its premium TMT under the brand name KAY2 Xenox on Oct 19 to expand its market share. KAY2 Steel promotes the use of TMT bars for construction in earthquake-prone areas of the country.
