India’s ferrous scrap imports climbed 7pc between January-April 2021 to settle at 1.85mn mt from 1.73mn mt in the same period last year, according to Customs data.
The country also imported 80pc more of the commodity in April at 410,633mt compared to 227,768mt in the same month in 2020. On a monthly basis, the numbers were nearly flat with 405,066mt bought in March 2021.
The United Arab Emirates was the leading exporter of ferrous scrap with six times more cargo in April 2021 to 132,728mt from 17,708mt last year. India’s monthly volumes from the country climbed 33pc 99,951mt this March.
India’s imports from the USA trended down with nearly half the volume at 28,308mt in April 2021 from 53,651mt last year and a 19pc decline from 34,953mt in March this year.
