State-owned ventures Sail, RINL and NMDC recently revealed their modernisation and expansion plans in the parliament. 

 

Steel Authority of India Limited (Sail)

Sail had undertaken expansion and modernisation of its five integrated steel plants located at Bhilai (Chhattisgarh), Bokara (Jharkhand), Rourkela, (Odisha), Durgapur (WestBengal); as well as the special steel plant at Salem (Tamil Nadu) to enhance annual crude steel capacity from 12.8mn mt to 21.4mn mt.

Rastriya Ispat Nigam Limited

 RINL has also completed its expansion programme to double the capacity from the present 3mn mt to 6.3mn mt at an estimated costs of Rs12,2910mn. Along with modernisation, additional converter and caster has been installed increasing the production capacity by 1mn mt  to 7.3mn mt.

 

National Mineral Development Corporation

National Mineral Development Corporation is in the process of setting up a green field integrated steel plant with an annual capacity of 3mn mt at Nagarnar, near Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. The construction of this plant is in final stage of completion.
