Indian automakers reported a decline in sales in Feb 2020, with  a transition to the BS-VI emission norms from April impacting production and sales. 

Companies are also facing a supply chain disruption of certain components from China due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

 

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki’s total car sales dropped by 1.1pc to 147,110 units in February 2020, from 148,682 in February 2019. 

Domestic sales declined by 1.6pc to 1,36,849 units, while exports were up by 7.1pc AT 10,261 units in February, against February 2019. 

 

Tata Motors

The company’s overall sales in February fell by 32pc to 40,634 units, from 60,151 units in February 2019. Domestic sales dropped by 34pc to 38,002 units in February, of which, commercial vehicles and passenger vehicle sales fell by 35pc and 31pc, respectively, against February 2019.

The company is clearing its BS IV inventory ahead of the move to production under the BS-VI norms.

 

Mahindra & Mahindra 

The company’s overall domestic sales decreased by 42pc to 30,637 units in February from 52,915 units in the prior year. 

Domestic tractor sales were up by 21pc to 21,877 units, while, exports were down by 22pc to 684 units from February 2019.

Tractor demand is likely to increase on the back of a robust rabi crop output.
