The Indian government has initiated an investigation on subsidized exports of aluminium wires from Malaysia citing a material injury to the domestic industry after a  was complaint filed by Vedanta Limited and Bharat Aluminium Company.


The Commerce Ministry’s investigation arm — Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) – has begun an enquiry to see if the subsidy programme of Malaysia for exports of ‘aluminium wire/wire rods above 7mm diameter’ is negatively impacting the local industry.


This product is mainly used in electrical and steel industries. 


DGTR will investigate the extent of the damage caused and will recommend the amount of countervailing duty to remove the injury caused to the domestic industry. The period of April -December 2019 will be investigated.
