India’s ferrous scrap imports in November 2019 decreased by 20pc to 496,834mt, from the year prior, but increased by 17pc compared to the previous month, October, as per customs data.
Steel mills in India procured more ferrous scrap in November, compared to the previous month, on an expectation of a revival in domestic steel demand.
In November 2019, UAE exported the highest volume of ferrous scrap to India, at 94,555mt, followed by exports from the UK to India at 51,662mt, US at 49,830mt, Singapore at 28,996mt and South Africa at 27,663mt.
The import of ferrous scrap from the US significantly fell by 61pc in November, compare to the prior year, while it increased by 68pc, compared to the previous month.
Imports from South Africa also fell by 40pc in November compared to the prior year, while it increased significantly by 84pc compared to previous month.
