With the end of the transporters’ strike, shipbreaking scrap prices surged, Tuesday, after staying unchanged for 18-20 days.
The daily Davis Index for HMS attachments and Melting rose by Rs200/mt($2.69/mt) each to Rs38,000/mt and Rs37,000/mt ex-Alang respectively.
Re-rolling scrap prices remained firm as demand from the local rolling mills is gradually picking up, the index for 6Ani rose by Rs300/mt to Rs41,600/mt ex-Alang and the index for 14ani rose by Rs200/mt to Rs44,300/mt ex-Alang.
Ship plate prices also trend up as demand from the infrastructure segment picked pace. The daily Davis Index for 1kg plates rose by Rs200/mt to Rs38200/mt ex-Alang and the index for 5kg plates rose by Rs300/mt to Rs42,200/mt ex-Alang.
Lately, two Reefers containers named DOLE California and DOLE Equador with 8,314ldt and 8,327ldt, respectively, were sold to India for HKC green recycling at $645/ldt and $625/ldt, respectively.
