South Korean carmakers Hyundai and its affiliate Kia Motors aim to sell 7.08mn units in 2021, 1.7pc lower than last year’s tally of 7.2mn, according to media reports. In the first half of the year, however, sales by the two auto companies were up by 25pc to 3.47mn units.
The value of the sales by Hyundai and Kia in Q2 2021 ending June is forecast to be KRW29.06 trillion, up from KRW21.86 trillion in Q2 2020 and KRW17.75 trillion, up from KRW11.37 trillion, respectively.
Robust sales of high-end vehicles and higher average selling prices in the US aided the rise.
In the remaining six months, these companies plan to focus on the promotion of their new EV models – crossover utility vehicle IONIQ5 for Hyundai and K8 sedan for Kia.
