Hudbay Minerals confirmed it’s appointed Peter Kukielski its president and chief executive officer, a position he’s held on an interim basis since July 2019.

According to Stephen A. Lang, Hudbay’s chairman, the board evaluated Kukielski’s performance as interim CEO and, in addition to his 30-plus years in the mining industry, determined he was the right choice for the role.

Kukielski has extensive global experience in base and precious metals, and bulk materials sectors, including serving in leadership positions, most recently as Nevsum Resource’s president and chief executive officer, which he vacated upon the company’s acquisition in December 2018.

Between 2013 and 2017, Kukielski was chief executive officer of Anemka Resources, a private global mining investment firm. Prior to that he led mining at ArcelorMittal as chief executive officer, where he oversaw 27 operating mines and three major development projects. Kukielski has also served as the chief operating officer of Teck Resources.

Kukielski said Hudbay—a Canadian miner—has a high-quality portfolio of operating assets and is well positioned to unlock its values.
