Housing sales in Turkey rose by 54.2pc in August to 170,408 houses, compared to 110,538 houses in Aug 2019, reveal statistics by the Turkish Statistical Institute’s (TurkStat). In the Jan-Aug period, sales surged by 42.6pc to 1.02mn housing units.
Of the total August sales, Istanbul registered the highest share of 17.8pc or 30,292 houses, followed by Ankara with 17,131 houses, up by 10.1pc, and Izmir with 11,145 houses up by 6.5pc from Aug 2019.
In July, sales had reached an all-time high registering a rise of 124.3pc from July in the prior year, supported by campaigns launched by state-owned lenders like Ziraat Bank, VakifBank, and Halkbank.
Mortgage sales increased by 122.6pc to 76,019 units in August from the prior-year period, with Istanbul accounting for the largest share with 15,367 houses, up by 20.2pc.
Sales of new and second-hand houses rose by 28.3pc and 69.2pc, respectively, in August.
