Vietnamese steelmaker Hoa Phat’s steel sales in April surged 65pc to 869,000mt, compared to prior-year month.

 

Exports
Steel export volume rose 3.5 times to 73,000mt during the month as traditional markets including Australia, Japan, Canada, and ASEAN countries imported in large quantities. The company also exported 121,000mt of billet steel to the global market, primarily China.

Finished construction steel
Finished construction steel’s sales increased by 59pc to 428,000mt in April compared to same month last year. Construction steel sales in the northern and central regions grew 66pc and 67pc, respectively. The southern region of the country contributed a 34pc to sales growth.

Hoa Phat’s hot-rolled coil (HRC) sales in April stood at 212,000mt.
It saw a growth in steel pipe and galvanized steel pipe production to meet domestic and export markets’ demands. Steel pipe sales reached 87,000mt, up 44.5pc from last year. Galvanized steel sheet outputs increased by 55pc in April.
 

Crude steel
Hoa Phat’s crude steel. Output was at 2.7mn mt in April, up by 58pc over prior-year period. The steelmaker sold 2.66mn mt of steel profiles — including 1.28 mn mt finished construction steel (up 28pc), and 878,000mt HRC in the Jan-April period. Their HRC output for steel pipes reached 271,000mt (up 32 pc) whereas galvanized steel sheet reached 93,000mt, up 2.6times from prior-year period.
 

2021 targets
The steelmaker’s targets to achieve sales of 5mn mt of finished construction steel and steel billets, 2.7mn mt of HRC, 920,000 mt of steel pipes and over 300,000mt of galvanized steel sheets in 2021.
