Vietnamese steel producer, Hoa Phat commissioned the fourth 120-ton BOF converters, designed by SMS, on Oct 28. The last two converter melt shops have a combined annual crude steel capacity of 4mn mt.
Each converter unit includes the oxygen, refractory slag management system along with suspension and tilt drives. The converter meltshop technology installions will optimize productivity with an intelligent electrical and automation system. It will also reduce operational delays due to maintenance.
Hoa Phat also plans to increase exports of its steel products as part of its growth plan. The company’s semi-finished steel exports have increased in the recent past, with 70pc of its 1mn mt billet production shipped to China in January-July 2020.
