Chiho Environmental Group (CEG) announced a joint venture with Hidaka Yookoo, Thailand’s largest ferrous scrap recycler and Suzuki Shokai, a Japanese resources recycling company, to form the Hidaka-Chiho Metal Recycling (HCMR) company on Nov 5.

The newly formed joint venture will source motors from North America, Europe and Japan for dismantling, sorting and recycling in Thailand’s bonded areas. The “refined” products will then be consumed in Thailand and exported, chiefly to China and India.

The facility has a nameplate capacity of 200,000mt with its annual treatment plan aiming to process 60,000mt in its first year and begin commercial operation on Jan 1, 2020, according to the company.

Furthermore, HCMR will initially sell and export copper and non-ferrous scrap before expanding into processing Zorba, a mixture of shredded and pre-treated non-ferrous scrap metals – particularly aluminium, from 2021 onwards.
