Bangladesh’s GPH Ispat plans to build a 10MW solar plant at its Sitakunda factory in Chittagong. The plant will help GPH reduce its carbon footprint.

The steelmaker has invited Expression of Interest (EOI) for the development of the solar photovoltaic plant at the facility. The tentative plan for the plant is to cover an artificial lake built for rainwater harvesting with solar panels and the installation of panels on the hilly areas around the lake and rooftops of the company’s factory building and office buildings.

Besides providing solar power, the solar panels will help in water conservation due to reduce evaporation from the lake and reduce the steelmaker’s carbon footprint. The company also can export any unused power to the grid.

GPH Ispat is a leading integrated steel producer engaged in the manufacturing and trading of MS billet and MS rod. The company caters to both domestic and export demand.
