Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

The global primary aluminium output rose by 0.7pc to 5.45mn mt in May 2020, from the prior-year period, and rose by 3.3pc from 5.27mn mt in April 2020 after many countries resumed smelting operations with the easing of COVID-19 related lockdowns.

 

China remained the largest producer of primary aluminium in May, producing 3.1mn mt, up by 1.6pc from the prior-year period and up by 3.6pc from 2.9mn mt in April 2020, according to the International Aluminium Institute (IAI). 

 

North America’s output increased by 6pc to 346,000mt in May from the prior-year period and up by 4pc from the previous month. 

 

The global daily average output in May was 175,700mt, up from 174,500mt in the prior-year period but down from 175,800mt in the previous month.
