Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Global primary aluminum production stood at 5.54mn mt in June, up by 4.5pc from 5.3mn mt in June 2020, according to the International Aluminum Institute. 

 

Last month, production in China rose by 7pc to 3.24mn mt compared with 3mn mt in the same month last year. During this period, output in the rest of Asia also increased by 9.7pc to 370,000mt from 337,000mt. 

 

In North America, primary aluminum production fell by 3.7pc to 318,000mt in June, compared with 330,000mt in the prior-year period. Meanwhile, South America’s output increased by 31.5pc to 96,000mt from 73,000mt a year ago.

 

Primary aluminum output in East and Central Europe trended flat at 340,000mt from June 2020. In West Europe, production declined by 1.4pc to 270,000mt against 274,000mt a year ago. In the Middle East as well, output fell by 0.4pc to 472,000mt in June from 474,000mt annually.

 

Production was flat in Africa at 130,000mt while Oceania produced 9.7pc less primary aluminum at 158,000mt against 158,000mt a year ago. Estimated unreported production in the rest of the world remained unchanged at 164,000mt in June 2021.
